Abstract

­This presentation will look at the role of the Lifeguard, surveillance techniques and different types of technology in swimming pools – and explore the future implications.

It is well recognised that new technology is now widely available in all industries. Recent developments in safety technology to assist Lifeguards in swimming pools has and will continue to challenge the future role of the Lifeguard and the execution of their duties.

The important role of responsibilities of a Lifeguard have often been under played and not fully recognised and as the duty of care and duty to respond increase so must employers obligations to their staff.

Learning Outcomes
  1. Be aware of advancements in new technology to assist Lifeguards in their role.
  2. Awareness of the changing role and needs of the Lifeguard in the future.
  3. Identify the changing requirements and adaptations of surveillance techniques and supervision intended for lifeguarding in swimming pools.
